Day 95 - Project 365

We awoke at 10am in a Jersey rest stop. Cramped and hot from the sudden jump in temperature we stretch and come back to reality. The sleep was much needed as we had driven from Manchester straight to Jersey. I was ready for a shower and a good meal but since we were at a rest stop I was going to have to settle for a toilet and a high caloric overly sweet Cinnabon and an 2.00 coffee flavored hot water. The bathrooms were too dirty for me to feel comfortable cleaning up. The weather said 100% chance of precipitation yet it wasn't raining. That didn't last long. By the time we had our breakfast it was pouring rain and blowing wind! Theres the one time the weather prediction is right.

Day 95/365 - Distorting Reality

We were on our way to the Jersey Shore to photograph Jay Alders and some of his amazing artwork. His girlfriend woke up not feeling well and we were nearly SOL for a Day 95 volunteer. Luckily she was ok enough for company and we started back on our way to meet up with Jay.

I figure I'd take a second to complain about the Jersey Turnpike and the ridiculous tolls! I don't understand why we are paying so much in tolls and the roads still suck. Where is the money going? How bout you cut back on those fancy digital signs and fill in some of those pot holes. Anyway… back to the story.

We make it to Jays house and I hit the bathroom first thing. Joyce gets to know Jay and Chelsea, entertaining them with stories from our crazy trip. I join them a short while later and we continue the story telling. After about 20 minutes we decide its time to get down to business. This would prove to be the most challenging concept to date. The small space and limited viable angles made it extremely difficult to settle on an idea. Jay offered up his 15mm Fish Eye and I gratefully excepted as it would get my image closer to the style of his paintings. An effect I was after from the beginning. We spend the next 2 hours working on, shooting, reshooting and editing the photo. Joyce was eerily quite, which I found out later meant she was crabby! Good to know. She wasn't bored… just hungry. Once she found some skittles in her purse she was good to go!

We left Jays house at about 6pm and drove 10 miles out of our way to get a broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl from Panera Bread. Joyce forgot the bread bowl and I was left bread-bowl-less. I tend to eat the what ever Joyce doesn't finish. It works out perfect as she doesn't waste food and I don't starve or go broke. We sat in Panera for 90 minutes, ate and listened to the bible group behind us. I edited until they closed. We are still in the parking lot 90 minutes later and I'm not totally happy with the shot. The white walls just don't do it for me.
